When a homeowner in Edmonds began experiencing sewage backups whenever water was used anywhere in the house, they knew the issue needed immediate attention. After clearing the line and evaluating the condition of the existing piping, they discovered deteriorating cast iron drain lines beneath the basement slab that were contributing to the recurring backups. To provide a reliable repair, the crew excavated the affected area, installed a new sewer cleanout, and removed the failing underground cast iron drainage system.
Once access was gained through careful excavation and concrete removal, Blake and Milan repiped the underground drain system using new code-approved ABS piping and fittings. The new drain lines were properly graded and bedded to current plumbing code standards, and test fittings were installed for inspection. During the project, the team also discovered an additional drain line running beneath a bathtub. After discussing options with the homeowner, that drain was left in place for future consideration. To further improve the integrity of the system, a new 4-inch sewer liner was installed within the existing sewer line.
After the underground piping work was completed, the project successfully passed inspection with the City of Edmonds. The excavation was backfilled and prepared for concrete restoration. Due to the existing slab thickness of approximately 6 inches, additional measures were required to complete the concrete work properly, including the installation of rebar reinforcement, a vapor barrier, and sealant to ensure a durable, code-compliant finish. With the new underground drainage system in place and inspections approved, the homeowner can now enjoy peace of mind knowing their sewer system is operating safely and reliably. All completed work was backed by a one-year parts and labor warranty.
